General view of the sand foundry

Stone Foundries has been on its present site in London, just upstream of the Thames Barrier, since 1939. It was acquired by Langham Industries in 1982 from Stone Platt.

The late 1990s also saw a major reordering of the main production areas with the benefit of drastically improved efficiency and productivity. Refurbishment of the office unit is ongoing, along with further plant improvements.

The company has built up a reputation over many years based upon its commitment to product quality and customer service. Ongoing investment in the company has seen the development of a fast loop mechanised moulding unit in the mid 1980s, followed by two more carousel moulding units in the 1990s. Then followed a development of the lost-wax investment foundry in which a fast drying room and robotic mould handling were installed.

Alan Alderton (Managing Director)

The company now employs just over one hundred people and is one of the very few UK foundries having the capability of producing magnesium alloy sand castings to the levels of quality and structural integrity demanded by the aerospace industry. It is at the forefront of technology in the introduction of new alloys. In addition it produces sand castings in aluminium alloys, and investment castings in aluminium alloys and copper alloys.

In addition to aerospace, other specialised high-technology markets require high integrity castings and this has given Stone Foundries further opportunities for development. Amongst these are defence, motor sport, aero engines and nuclear power generation.

Our aim is to be the most innovative and successful producer of non-ferrous high integrity castings achieving and maintaining world class status for quality and customer satisfaction.
